Harbour Town Lighthouse
Harbour Town Light House may well be the most unforgettable sight at Harbour Town, a marina and village located in Hilton Head Island's Sea Pines Resort. In a planned resort community with strict height restrictions on buildings, Harbour Town Light House is a real standout...in more ways than one. It measures 93 feet from top to bottom. Harbour Town Light House also boasts a striking appearance, thanks to the red and white stripes that encircle it.
The scene of countless photo opportunities past and present, Harbour Town Light House is an impostor of sorts. When it was built in 1969, Harbour Town Light House was designed as a commercial venture rather than as a beacon for sailors. Today, visitors are invited to climb up 110 steps to the top of Harbour Town Light House. There, a walkway offers them a panoramic view of the marina, the Calibogue Sound, nearby Daufuskie Island and the 18th green of the Harbour Town Golf Links, one of the finest golf courses in the world. Also at the top of the Harbour Town Light House is the aptly-named Top of the Lighthouse Shoppe, where visitors may purchase souvenirs, collectibles, gift items and more.
Harbour Town Light House stands guard at the entrance to the Harbour Town Yacht Basin, located in the southwestern corner of Hilton Head Island. The Harbour Town Light House does double-duty as a distinctive landmark as well as a museum highlighting the history of Hilton Head.
